Maybe Baby: Public Opinion Poll

I have the pregnancy test scheduled for Monday morning and then have to wait until late afternoon for results. Does anyone else feel like Monday is too long to wait for possibly life changing news?

I am one who likes to find out the sex of my babies at 20 weeks instead of 40. I like clear drinking glasses so I know if I am having milk or juice before I drink. I like to know when company is coming over instead of the "we thought we just drop by" clueless folks. But on the flip side I am a rule follower. And I hate reading the back of books because they give too much away. I like going to the movies without knowing a thing about the film. And grab bags at dime stores were always too tempting for me not to buy.

So what is your opinion? My "Post Frozen Embryo Transfer" rules sheet said not to take a home test. My guess is that it can say negative and you still could be pregnant or it could be positive only to get your hopes up and then to find out with the blood test that you are fated to miscarry soon.

I am also unsure about who I want to hear the news from. I think that I would be fine either way. Pregnant or not. But what if I fall apart on the phone with the nurse? I'm not sure what to do. I suppose I could set up a webcam in my bathroom and we could all take the test together. Would you like that? *crickets*

Please cast your vote if I should test early or not to the comment section.

I think you should wait but if you don't , I think you should call your mother right away.

WEEELLLLL, I'm the girl who waited the whole 40 weeks (or 42 in my case) to find out the sex of my baby....so my vote is to wait. But, if I have another baby someday, I'm definitely finding out at the 20 week ultrasound! So, I'm wishy washy! I think you should do what feels right to YOU!

Early polls indicate that my "anonymous" mother thinks I need to wait and Meghan took the easy way out with a non vote of "do-what-feels-best-for-you" route. Meghan, sweet not helpful.

God's the one in control anyway - regardless of when you take the test :)

Dear Sweet, Wonderful, Amazing Becca,
I think you should wait until Monday. My opinion of you won't change if you choose to try to find out early. It's the lack of total confidence in the home test showing up accurately this early in the pregnance that makes me want to wait. When I hear the news, I want to know for certain that it is the right news. I'm excited, along with so many others, to hear your news, one way or the other. I am so thankful that you are trusting God through all this. Love you!

Well, as a former IVFer, I think you should wait...Why? You might ask. Well, all of the meds you have been taking could (most definately) give you a falls positive/negative. I am NOT a patient person, but I would rather have the correct info!

PS I am looking forward to Monday though!

I really can't wait. I bought u one of those ultra accurate pg tests but I was afraid to give it to u!

(emailed to me from my mother-in-law. )

Rachel B! Good to meet you my infertile sister! You bring up a good point about the drugs in my system possibly bringing false results. This is certainly true for a fresh IVF cycle. Because you give your body the "trigger" shot the night before retrieval. The Trigger shot does have a hormone in it that can give false positive with home tests. But because I am only on progesterone and estrogen that shouldn't have any effects on a home test that is searching for HCG a hormone only a baby produces.
Tonight I am leaning toward waiting. The blood test does give you so much better information.
Nice to meet you Rachel B!

I say wait until Monday, because it's already on my calendar, and I don't like using White-Out. There you have it. :-)

Wait. If you take it now, it will probably make you uptight either way. If it's negative, you'll be disappointed and if it's positive, you'll not really believe that it's accurate. I don't see a positive, happy feeling coming from taking that test, because the whole time you'll be wondering whether it was true or not. Plus, it's kind of fun to wait. It's only two more days! You can do it.

The dollar store has tests for...wait for it...a dollar. You could buy 10.

If it were me, I know I'd buy a test and then chicken out and wait.

Ps. those grab bags are crap.

Wait. If you have a negative you'll be so disappointed and wracked with "well maybe it's a false positive?" For me that would only add to the torture of waiting until Monday. Oh, or option C would be to take a home test Monday morning which would allow your to celebrate at home and/or shorten any false negative anguish. Yes, definitely option C. Love you!

I'm so behind on giving you a comment here, but NOT behind on having you on my brain constantly and in my prayers as well.

I don't know what I would do if I were you, but I know you will choose the best choice for you in the moment.

I am so hopeful and glad that we can be honest with you too. If you need something to look forward to, if the answer isn't what you wanted...I will be there to babysit while you do something for you for goodness sake on Tuesday!

Love and hugs,
s

If Pam was the commenting type and brave enough, this is what she would say to you: (because she told me in private)

On Saturday, the day after the transfer, I was standing at the kitchen window looking out, and saw the most amazing sight. One of our chickens (the handicapped one btw) with 8 baby chicks.

In that moment, the first thing I thought of was Becca and that it was a sign!

(isn't it grand to think that your "chicks" are either in your arms for the time being or already in our Father's hands??!!!"
