Open House

Creature Bug ( www.creaturebug.typepad.com )awhile back opened her home to us bloggers room by room every Sunday. I love this idea and I’d like to invite all of you to come on over. To my site that is.
Today I wanted to introduce you to my house. In a word, I think it’s lovely. I know this house I used to gaze at it while walking to church as a young girl with my mother and sister. It’s nestled in our towns historic district. It’s close to everything. Friday mornings my friend Michelle and I put the twins in a stroller and take a quick 15 minuet walk though our capitol grab a Starbucks and shop downtown. For a moment I feel like a New Yorker. Every house on my street is an architectural marvel. I could stare at the details for hours. Gables, pillars, stoops, balconies and inviting front porches, it's my own museum. Our street in lined with 100 year old oak trees that grow together to make a canope and the mail carrier delivers the mail into a little slot that magically shoots right into the houses. We also have the good fortune to live next to our church. They make great neighbors. Tobin attends preschool there and they even come and pick him up and drop him off. (The staff has seen me in all my verity of pajama bottoms with mix match tops) My house is an English tutor cottage. It’s so cute you just want to squeal, pick it up and put it in your pocket.

When I first stepped into in it, I took a deep breath, my shoulders relaxed and I knew I had found my home. It smelled of my grandparents home. It’s the smell of aged wood from the moldings, floors and charming built in's. I knew this was the home in which I would grow babies and a garden. The home I would bake and have jovial parties. The home I would mark my kids height on a door frame that eventually I would chain my grey haired self too as the wrecking ball was threaten its existence. This was the house that I would wait watching out the window for my children to return home from college.
All that being said......

I know it takes my breath away too. This has been such a journey to get to this place. The timing is right but watching Matt pound in this sign that invites strangers to see my home as possibly theirs puts a big giant lump in my throat. I have to let go of the love affair I am having with my nest. So to do this I will be posting every Sunday little corners of my house. For you to enjoy and for me to remember. Next week I’ll also write about how we came to this decision. So until then....tootle loo.

You need to become a published writer! Seriously!!
I felt as if I was actually standing in your home, walking down your street, enjoying the life you're so blessed to call yours.
~ Looking forward to next week and am excited to see where this adventure takes you!

I know the feeling. Our house is up for sale and it is bittersweet. So many memories but our memories stay with us and we are a family full of memories no matter where we live. Where do you plan to go? Can't wait to see the pictures. I have always admired your home. I love old houses too. We have a 1950's home. Very sweet, cottage like. Hardwood floors, special moldings etc. Everything is rock solid. Why are we selling??????????????????????

Becca, you crack me up! I can just see you with Matt's handcuffs chaining yourself to the house...now, or if you were gray haired! I am so sorry you are going to have to say goodbye to something you obviously love so dearly. However I hope your future home gives you some great memories (and your kids some even better ones) to hold onto and love just as much. Wherever you end up I know you will make a new nest that is just as perfect to nurture your babies in, even when they are of college age.

Oh Becca - you know how much I LOVE your house! It is very sad to see you having to move on but God is gracious and He has our whole lives in His hands. He knows you and He wants to bless you - with a new perfect place that you and He together will make into your HOME!

I love your house! I love homes that have character. When we were looking to buy the realtor took us to all the new construction, I would just zip right through and then say "No, I don't like it." We settled on ours but I would still like something older, much older.

I am not one who gets too attached to things, but I think I can relate to how you feel. Whenever I talk about selling, Sergio says, "You'd sell our home?"
To which I always reply, "No, you are my home, I would never sell you...the house however, yes!"

Truly you home is God and your family, so if they are with you, anywhere can be home.

You're selling your house?!! After reading about your house, seeing that sign absolutely made my eyes fill up with tears.

I'm glad, however, that it has inspired you to give us an open house because I've ALWAYS wanted to see the inside of your house. I admire it every time I'm over in that area (as well as all those other fabulously old homes).

Okay,

I am laughing because I think we have an at-home-mom's refuge going on here on your blog, Becca. I was having a discussion with a friend who reads your blog, but she doesn't comment, about how within a few hours of a new thread up, a bunch of us moms come on here and "pounce" upon your blog. I checked it this morning, 2 comments, took a shower and did some stuff around the house, and 3 more comments popped up. And here I am...POUNCE, like a cat to catnip.

Anyways, I love your house and love that you escaped the suburbia of Salem, if only for a few years. It's always a good experience to live in a city type environment for a bit...and you're about as close as it gets in Salem.

I can hardly wait to see what you'll do with your next place. I'm going to throw out a guess, are you building a house on some property?

Keep us posted, and seriously, thanks for being a place of joy for all of us moms...
