Shameful Parenting Revealed

Because Dr. Dobson won't be using these clips in his next parenting DVD series, I thought I'd give Glory Laine readers a glimps at just how sucky Matt and I can be as parents.

To me, this is like a bad accident. I keep reliving it step by step in slow motion wondering why on Earth we felt we had to "keep our word". I mean I could sorta justify it if it were a bucket of broccoli but, pizza? Really?
He spent every dime last night. Not to come off like a total tool he set aside some to give to church (less then a buck), let Jabe and Phoebe pick one item each from the dollar section, took them out for ice cream and brought me home some candy. The rest can be found in the register at Brats R Us. And I am going to hock my wedding ring so we can pay the water bill. Looks like Tobin parented us this weekend.

Wow....all I can say is wow....though Dad give Dustin some serious cash once for eating this giant wood grub we found out in the woodpile....

Holy moly. That's some serious pizza eating.

On a much smaller (and less expensive) scale: I bribed the girls with a piece of licorice if they would touch a frog today. They did it, very grudgingly. I wonder if I could have got Sydney to kiss the frog for $100?...I just asked her, and she said, "More than $100." Yikes.

Do you think Matt would give me a hundred bucks if I ate a whole pizza? Cause I could really use a hundred bucks... and I wouldn't mind eating a whole pizza either.

This was awesome. Jill

O Becca.
I had to laugh at you and Matt. When AJ was about Tobin's age he told Al that there was a guy who could burp the entire alphabet. Silly silly Al didn't believe it so they bet $100. Several weeks later Al saw a guy on the tonight show burp from A to Z. AJ was asleep so...how would he know. But both Al and I thought that modeling honesty and integrity was worth the 100 bucks. I'm proud of you guys. You never know how that will impact Tobin down the road. Way to go!

Becca, Me and Jaimie will eat a whole pizza for $100! As Crystal said, Dale once offered Dustin $75 if he would eat a wood grub we found in the wood pile. Of course Dustin was up for making some big bucks, so he boiled the worm, thinking that would make it more palatable, but it expanded to about 5 times the original size, and Dustin ate it anyway. The outside was crusty and the inside was like a hostess twinkie he said, gooey and creamy. Now that was good parenting! (not)

Oh my gosh!! To funny, I kept thinking "umm, he could eat a bit more off the crust" ;) You guys rock, Dobson would so use this- as sticking to your word and not backing out, like the rest of us would!!!

Sorry to everyone who hopes that we will make this deal to anyone willing to eat an entire pizza. I KNOW it was a bad deal to start with. Given Tobin's food patterns I think Matt felt it was safe but boy did Tobin call his bluff. Still . . . I wish I could have that money back, really could have used it in more practical ways. I have to keep reminding myself that perhaps we modeled to him the importance of keeping your word. But still . . . I wish I had a time machine.
