A bad day made better by Dutch Brothers

It was a rushed morning. I had a dentist appointment and it was picture day at Tobin's pre-school. So in between feeding the twins, getting in one more floss on my teeth, and trying to find a clean shirt for Tobin that didn't draw attention to his bruise on his left eye and the bloody scratch above his right eye, I skipped breakfast. This years school picture will be a treasure sure to go strait on the mantel.
I'm not a big fan of going to the dentist. Truth be told I'd rather have my annual exam with Dr. Gyno than have someone scrape my teeth with a sharp object. But the worse part is having your mouth full of of fingers while being asked questions that you'd love to answer but can't because of said fingers. Torture.
I rush to pick up Tobin from school when his teacher tells me that she's been having difficulty with Tobin the last few days. Ugh it just was a sick feeling in my stomach. Matt and I both were very compliant children. I have a vivid memory of my teacher using a sharp tone with me in Kindergarten. It crushed me to think I may have disappointed her. Tobin on the other hand was not granted the genetic gene that makes tears well up when you're not the winner the best citizen award. Oh well we need activist in the world as well.
So where was I? Oh yeah. So I am in the van with Tobin driving to pick up the twins from my mothers. He is mad at me because I told him no movie because of his misbehavior in class. When he starts in that he doesn't like me. I ignore him and maturely turn up the radio to drowned out his hatefulness. I am wishing that I had a hot Starbucks in my hand and am so angry that Matt and I are so strapped for cash that I have swore off all such extras. So just as Tobin is now kicking the back seat and added his third, I don't like you, I open my mouth to tell Tobin that I really don't like him right now. BUT instead the voice of an angel comes over the radio and announces that a grand opening of Dutch Brothers is giving away FREE coffee. AND it is just a block away. !!!!!! Just more proof that there is a God. So after waiting in line for half hour I got my free tasty drug of choice.

I have been way out of the loop in blogworld. My free time has been ate up by my quest for a the perfect house plan. I have found that it is as rare as a winged, fire breathing unicorn. And when I'm not looking for that I've been working on Christmas presents. Being on such a tight budget I know that thoughtful cheep gifts mean.....spending a lot of time making things. So to tidy up my last post I have to say that house # four is my all time favorite! And as soon as they left the restraining order, I'll go back to my binoculars and lawn chair across the street looking at every little wonder that makes up this craftsman perfection.

I guess that means you had already used the Starbucks card I gave you - or didn't have it. Either way, I'm so glad you finally got a coffee treat.

That WAS a crazy day! Makes me think of another post for my own:) hee hee!

One more thing looking up for you -The Lightning McQueen costume is on its way and Pam bought the kids Christmas outfits too - HURRAY!!

"Dr. Gyno"......You crack me up!!!

If it makes you feel any better, I too have sworn off my trips to Starbucks in order to save money. The pumpkin spice latte I blogged about on Sunday was (sigh), my last for quite some time. I sit here sipping my not-so-smooth tasting coffee from home and wishing it was a vanilla latte.

Thanks for sharing. Any story from you is a good one!

I always appreciate reading your blogs. You can take a bad day, and make the most of it! Good for you. Can't beat free coffee, either.

You will be glad to know that Tobins pictures were perfect, I made sure of that. As for the comment from the teacher, we can talk about that offline...and as for your coffee, YES-coffee is wonderful. It got me through 4.5 hours of pictures tody. Love you Becca-your fire breathing unicorn made me laugh very hard. 4 days until the Motherload-are you ready for it?

I just don't see how anyone could ever prefer Dr. Gyno to the dentist?? Although, I've heard that once you give birth, going to the gyno becomes less of a big deal!

I'm so thrilled you got your coffee treat, I know how you love them. :) I have sworn them off, too. Not only to save money, but since I became pregnant I've had an aversion to coffee (makes giving them up a lot easier!).

I think I'll forward you to the house plan Ben & I were going to use until we gave up the notion of moving. I was going to guard it tightly, but if there's anyone I'd show it to it's you guys! Then I can live vicariously through you and visit as often as I want!

Yay for Dutch Brothers! They always pull through.

As for house plans, have you checked out The Bungalow Company? (linked on my sidebar or you can Google them). Also Timbercraft Homes here in town has good designs...we met with the owner Eric to see about him designing a house for us.

And a few other links from my House Plans folder from my Internet Favorites: www.bhg.com, sunset.com, eplans.com, homeplans.com, dreamhomesource.com. I also highly recommend checking out The Not So Big House from the library. Good info.

All that said, though, we've given up finding a plan that'll fit perfectly on the land we're building on, so we can't use a stock plan. We're hiring Timbercraft.

Tobin, Tobin, Tobin, maybe you need to send him up here with auntie Angela!
Wishing I had a Dutch Brothers close by.

Your blog is so colorful today that I think I might need to go get me a tasty drug of choice to spice my blog up too! I can just picture the whole scenario you had going on in my head - oh, the joys of being a mom of an older toddler! I, too, always wonder why in the world the dentist will ask you questions with their hands stuck halfway down your throat! And a little piece of trivia - the Dutch Bro's very first coffee shop was started in my hometown by two Boresma brothers that I went to high school with (they are younger than me). They stayed up all night trying different coffee combos and got the great idea to start the shop. It soon became the local hangout for teens and a hot stop-in place for adults, and now has blossomed into the chain that it is today. Crazy, eh?

How funny, I was going to blog about freebies today. I went by Dutch Bros. yesterday and almost stopped in, but I had a cranky 3 year old in the car and the line just seemed too long.

I'm sorry about Tobin. My kids say things like that sometimes and the anger just swells inside me. I start to think, "Why you ungrateful little..." Motherhood has many rewards, but that's not one of them.

Hang in there.

Sorry you had a bad day-I hate days like that! Did Tobin wear the orange band-aid in the picture?

you are way too funny. I think you need your own show or something. I feel your pain...with both the coffee and the children! Something about Makayla right now. She is two weeks away from 5...and every time I say her name she clenches her fists and yells "what" with a sigh and a roll of the eyes. Her teacher says she is hard to manage and doesn't like to listen...and tries to get other children to be disruptive! Gasp! I say she's just very strong willed and independant (with a dramatic flare). I'm every teachers dream :)She lost all technological things yesterday and today. The Joy of parenting!!! I know it's there...i'm just going to have to have my coffee before my eyes will open wide enough to see it. :)

Becca, if there is anyone that deserves a coffee treat, it is YOU! So glad Dutch Brothers pulled through for you ;)

Days like that are rough, but I like to think the dentist is a relaxing experience! I LOVE to go there! Dr. Gyno can wait as far as I'm concerned!!

Love ya, and can't wait for Sunday. Although, I don't know what the Motherload is either! Must be a menu item??

P.S. if you ask Lily what her favorite animal is, she'll tell you it's a unicorn... but not one that breathes fire!!

Just got out of the shower and what do I see? A Starbucks card just for me. My friend Kim is so special to me because she heard my cry and my plee.
Three cheers for friends and for coffee!

Becca, Yesterday I thought of you!! Scott and I were out and about and he says to me, "Here's where the catastrophe occured yesterday." I turned and saw that he was talking about the new Dutch Bros. And it made me smile. Scott was working so he saw it as something horrible he had to deal with...but I knew for you it was a shining star in a not so shining day!

I keep a winged, firer breathing unicorn in my backyard. He's just short of magical. I'll ask him to cough up the perfect floor plan for you guys. I'll give it to you on Sunday.

I'm happy/sad about his post. Happy that someone out there could relate to the horrors of boys with bumps and bruises, Aidan has 2 nasty lookingones on his face right now and I feel so sad for him I warn and warn him about jumping up and down and acting all crazy but he just hasn't learned no matter how badly he gets hurt I don't think he'll be sitting still anytime soon.
At the same time i'm sad that you had a rather stressful day. And by the way I too sat in line at Dutch Bros for free coffee that day I'm a sucker for all things free!
Oh and one more thing...Have you ever considered designing your own floor plan? I know this is cheesy but I have my dream home all sketched out already. Now you don't have to draw it all out yourself but there are contractors who will take what you want in a home and make a floor plan that suits you.
