What's in your attic?

Let's have a dialogue, shall we? In my attic I have a huge box of New Kids On the Block memorabilia. Rolled up posters, scrapbooks, trading cards and huge giant buttons with picture stands on the back. "Why" you ask. Ummm because I want to sell them on ebay someday. Or maybe because it feels good to know that Jordan and Joey's faces are still just feet above me. Maybe I will pull it down someday when Phoebe is spending all her money on Teen Beat and the Big Booper magazines, to show her where her investment may end up. Remember when the camera paned to the crying pre-teen during Sanjaya's performance on American Idol. Oh how I felt for her. I understood the hormonal imbalance that occurs when becoming a woman. This freak show that convinces a young girl that someone who is really not cute - is and someone who can't sing - can. And then you have this delusion that maybe after the braces come off. . . maybe you'll meet and maybe he will marry you. Oh how I wanted to be Mrs. Becca McIntyre. But now that the hormones are balanced and the prepubescent fog has lifted I am happy being Mrs. Matt and my box is all I have left of my awkward years. So what's is your attic?

I love this! I knew who was in that little photo right away, I too was a HUGE New Kids fan. I went to one concert and I always hoped one would marry me too. In fact, I am even guilty of downloading a tune or two of theirs recently.

The New Kids were so awesome. My friends and I all had a crush on a different one, so that way no one's feelings were hurt in case one of them fell in love with one of us. We were so systematic like that.

I don't really have an attic to store things in. I do have a storage space for all my extra bathroom supplies-shampoo, toilet paper, cotton balls. It's my favorite place to go replenish all those things that run out!

Insulation. I have insulation in my attic. However, somewhere (unless I tossed it out 15 or so years ago), I, too, have some wonderful New Kids memorabilia.

Thank God we all grow up. But isn't it fun to look back with smiles on our faces? I'm sure one day I'll be humoring Makayla when she has a crush on some teen idol the way my mom did.

I'm laughing right now because my girlfriend and I had the best laugh the other day reminiscing about New Kids... and about BOP magazine... and how boy bands have evolved. Love that you have that stuff to share with your sweet girl. I know she'll be impressed with your collection!

Becca, I don't know how you could have had Joey unknowingly engaged to you as he was gong to be marrying ME! Hey, we could have had a little pre-teen girl fight over him! I too am glad those strange years have passed and I have settled comfortably into adulthood. Without Joey or any of the other New Kids! If it makes you feel any better I have saved all my E.T. memorbilia from my obsession during elementry school!

I like to call the NKOTB. I listened to them secretely in my bedroom lest my mother find out (see: Music series on my blog). I wasn't in love with them, however. My boyfriend, Kirk Cameron, would have been very jealous. In fact, when Kirk isn't saving souls on TBN, he's hiding from VH1's "Where are they now?" in my attic.

Yes my boy crushes did not start nor end with NKOTB. I too have a Kirk Cameron poster rolled up in the box as well. I think it even has a pink Lipsmacker kiss stain on it.

Um, yeah. I was rereading what I wrote in my comment. For the record- my mom did not have a crush on a tean idol when I was a kid. (The way I wrote it made it sound like that!!) Of course it was ME who had the crush and my mom who was humoring me.

Not that you couldn't figure that out yourself. Some how I was compeled to write it anyway! :)

You guys are so young! I had a poster of Vinnie Barbarino(aka: John Travolta for you youngsters) in my bedroom. Andy Gibb(s) singing could bring me to tears. Not the Bee Gees though, they were all so old.

Then there was my Sarah who would practice her signature alternating between Mrs. Josh Harnett and Mrs. Orlando Bloom.

Boy, I'm glad that's over...or am I? Hmm.

I think there is a memory box in my attic. Do you want your hair back?

I'm with Alida on Vinnie Barbarino! Rick Springfield comes close to a crush but still no posters. Most pop music biggies in the 70's were old! My good friend in High School had posters of Scott Baio. He was huge back then.

no posters of guys on my wall when i was a youngster. wierd i know but what i did hang on my wall were ads from gucci, coach, lucky, seven, nine west etc all sorts of little pages from magazines filled my wall and many nights i'd look at those ads and wish i had the money to by the latest fashions. as soon as i could i got a job and started spending money on tons of meaningless things. then kids..and reality and no more chasing after material dreams. glad to have grown out of that phase.

Oh, how one little picture can bring back so many memories! junior high memories came in like a flood: esprit bags, keds, acid washed guess jeans with zippers at the bottom, spiral perms and exclamation perfume. I too had a Joey poster on my wall, along with Jonny Depp and Kirk Cameron. I am so thankful I traded in Jonny D. for Jonny G!!! Thanks for the fun post :)

Just wanted to say hi Becca. Nothing is in my attic. Well, except those Canadian flags, I always wanted to marry a Canadain. Just kidding... I was so against all the teen idol stuff. Yes, I'm sure that really surprises you and all.

I have one dinner plate sized button of TNKOTB. I was in LOVE with Jordan Knight.

The girls that I used to babysit LOVED these boys ... Jordan was their fave. You know who is NOT in my attic? Donny Osmond ... he's not there, because I STILL love him to this day and am a devoted Donny.com-er!!! As for Emma, she is totally LOVING Cobin Bleu (from High School Musical). If I have to listen to his CD one more time ...

George Michael...well, before he "found himself".

Duran Duran.

Jason Bateman, Kirk Cameron (good gosh, how I wish I could take that time back), Ricky Shroeder, any good high school aged star from the family sitcoms.

Yep...the 80's were my era.

I have burned and trashed all of the remains...it's too painful. :)

Way too many spiders are in my attic. No New Kids stuff. Maybe some Bryan Adams. Rock on.

Oh oh oh oh oh! Hangin' Tough! Oh the memories are flooding back to me. I'll be singing that little number all week.
Saw your comments on my hubbies blog and had to check out your cute kiddos! They are adorable- just like I picured them. I'm sure you're a fantastic mommy.

oh nkotb!!
I was in love as well. I was SO jealous of my next door neighbor, who had not only the backpack but the *sleeping bag*. All I had was a baseball hat. Only it was one of those paper-y ball caps, you know? Super high quality. Teal, hot pink, neon yellow... oh these memories!!
