I Miss Maui

We're home. As a public service announcement, I feel obligated to advise all of you mommies and daddies out there to drop the kids off and go somewhere, anywhere together. Forget, for just a moment, the little darlings and re-connect with each other. Laugh. Create inside jokes. Cut no one else's food during dinner. Don't be afraid of the silence, soak it in, stare at each other's eyes and see that boy you fell in love with.

We are back now. Back to dirty dishes and poopy bottoms. For the life of me I can't seem to get warm. I've been tempted to even make a fire but it just doesn't seem right when it is still summer. Matt and I have a spring in our step and our tans are a reminder of the island just a five hour plane ride away.

Hawaii was a paradise but I have to say that the language was so intimidating to a phonics failure such as myself. But I really tried to sound out everything and learn the streets and town names. Ka‘anapali was our home base and nearing towns like Lahaina provided shopping and dinning. When we passed a new sign I tried to audibly sound it out, "Maui El-Dora-Doo" That's a pretty name, I say to Matt. Matt can't contain his laughter. He says "I think that's a Spanish restaurant: Maui Eldorado" Ooops..

We didn't bother buying Tobin any fancy gifts while we were there. Literally just rocks and shells we found on the beach. But this kid just loves his new "treasures". Here's a video of him showing off his stuff. Sorry it's a bit long.

I'm glad you guys got to get away. How awesome to be just the two of you guys again, refreshed and reconnected. Wonderful!

El-Dora-Do?? I'm going to have to guess you didn't take Spanish, if it is indead a Spanish word as you are assuming. Josh cracks me up when he tries to read/say Spanish words. I have an accent just like the rest of the gringas out there, but I'm closer than he is! Try "ehl-dor(soft r sound, almost sounding like an r meets th)- AH- doh". You may just impress that hubby of yours! ;)

Cool "she" shells. I'm not kidding. No, I'm not!

He's a funny guy. I bet that's how you lost your maternity weight-laughing about the funny things Tobin does ;)

Someday Matt's going to have fess up, and tell Tobin that he didn't really wrestle a shark and pull its tooth out for Tobin. That video was so sweet, what a precious little man! So glad you made it home safe!

I love Tobin's Pledge recital! I tell ya, after hearing about your trip and your encouragement to take off to somewhere by ourselves, I'm almost ready to buy my plane tickets! ...Almost! Don't think I could be away from the kidlet for a whole week quite yet! I'm hoping next summer though!

LOVE the enthusiasm Tobin has for his treasures!
He is going to be a talk show host for sure!
Glad you're back... and so very, very glad you got to go!

That is too cute!
I am amazed at Matt's dental abilities. Has he ever looked into a career change? I mean seriously if he is able to pull a shark's tooth, a human would be a piece of cake!
Welcome back! It was great to see you on Tuesday. Can't wait for you to be in our neck of the woods.

Oh, Becca! I was laughing so hard when Tobin said Matt got the shark tooth from the shark! He is so cute! I also didn't realize the pirates had their own re-quarium! That's awesome!
I want to go to Hawaii now! I can hardly wait to see your tan ;)

So glad that you guys are home and I just love that little boy. He is just like his mother!

I always knew Matt was some sort of super hero. Was he the stunt double for "Shark Boy & Lava Girl?"

I enjoyed listening to the ignored one year old in the background, that cracked me up!

And I love how the Pledge ends with "Please be seated." It's just like the ending of the National Anthem: "Play ball!"

Sooooo...what I'm gathering from reading the other comments is that Matt didn't actually pull that tooth out of a sharks mouth. Do I have this correct? ;)

What a sweet video! Tobin will appreciate watching that someday.
I think its so sweet the way little boys admire their dad's Tobin must love having a dad who serves as a police officer and as a shark wrestler. I bet he'll be sharing that story at pre-school!

What a cute video! And who needs expensive gifts, the "she" shells are gorgeous and Tobin obviously loves them, especially the story that goes with each one!

I feel like such a groupie when I leave comments on this. You are SO popular! But I just had to because that video of Tobin is hilarious! We showed it to Elsa and she got a big kick out of it too!

Why why why do they also miss their daddies first? Huh???? We're the one's who have dedicated our lives to staying at home and raising them...and who do they miss first??? I guess I have to admit that when your Dad pulls a tooth right from a shark's mouth and THEN gives it to you...you might have to favor him a little over your mother (who just sat on the beach improving her tan and her language skills)....
I'm glad you two had so much fun!

Becca...

It's been so many years since I've heard your voice on a regular daily basis...over 8...my word, that you don't even sound the same to me. You voice has matured beyond the once young and springy girl child that I knew to a wise and mature springy woman!

Okay, that just sounds like I'm calling you old...I'm not. I was just shocked to not totally recognize your voice.

You've got one cute kid there, Jeremy actually took the time to watch the vid with me (that's not the norm here), and we were both captivated. They grow up so fast...enjoy that little guy and he "amazement" at such things as shells and whatnot, soon he'll be "not impressed"...or "mom, I know that's fake". It comes like a mac truck and hits one day. Sad.

Tobin sure does like an audience!! I loved that he could say that his daddy got a shark tooth right out of the mouth of a shark....straight faced...totally believable. Love it!!!I'm currently fighting my girls off of my so that I can type this message because all they want to do is watch Tobin talk about his sea shells! Makayla is 4 you know! maybe she and Tobin could have a play date...some day ...when we are in the area!

I feel like I am in a time warp or something, but I am on my sis' computer and somehow able to leave my first comment ever in the history of your blog.

And all the blogging angels sang out in a beautiful chorus....

Besides that I don't have much to say:)

Just know that there have been about 20 comments written to you over the ages in this little box that never were able to be sent. They were fabulously written and it's a pitty you never got to see them.

I'm telling you now in public that I adore your stories.

I can't stop. I could be watching a movie or sleeping (Mike's gone tonight), but I have figured out how to leave comments and it is addicting.

Do you know that just because I was able to finally leave a comment on your blog, that I got a new reader?

I am figuring this stuff out!

Are you laughing at me yet?

What a cutie pie! I love the shark tooth and the pledge! So sweet. You do encourage me to jump in and go away for a full week with my husband! ;-)

Okay that is so cute!

Your story about the hawaiian words reminds me of when Mike and I were on our honeymoon there. I saw as sign and said "I wonder wait Pow Mia is?" He looked at me as if wondering if he really actually just married me and then said. "Um honey, POW MIA is an acrynm of Prisoner of War, Missing in Action." I havent been able to get him to stop teasing me about it....seven years later.
