Sunday Open House: Entryway

I'm really going to try to do this blogging everyday for a month thing again. And I'll take this opportunity during Nanoploblablabla. . . to finally welcome you into the house that we have been living in for almost a year now. Each Sunday I'll take you to a different part of the house but I am cheating today and just letting you into the entryway. This is a picture of the house in August. Can you see Phoebe?
There she is!
So wipe your feet and come on in.
These pictures are all done from the living room looking at the font door. My apologies that I wasn't thinking of this post when snapping away.
You'll notice we did some extra trim work in this small area to really make it interesting. I have no hall closet so I added black hooks for guest to hang coats, hats and bags.

I spent an entire summer hunting down cheep, unique black frames so I could acheive this gallery look. It's an awesome way to welcome people.

And did you notice the small church pews? They might be my most favorite pieces of anything I have in my home. They are from our church. The same church that Matt and I met in when we were six years old. The same church that we fell in love with God and then each other. The same one we married in and dedicated our children in. Our church recently got rid of all of it's beautiful wooden pews and put in chairs for our growing congregation. In the back of our sanctuary sat these little four foot pews and while sitting on them one Sunday morning, I whispered to Matt, "I wonder what the church is planning on doing with these little pews? I would love to buy them." Matt told me, "pipe down and listen to the preaching Devil Woman!". Fast forward two hours I'm saying goodbye to my four and five year old class and making sure they have all their puppets made from lunch sacks and removing the felt Jesus from the flannel board and Matt tells me that the little pews are mine! I mean ours. We refinished them and I am so honored to have them in our home.

LOVE it! What a great way to welcome friends and family! :) Mine would be cluttered with boots, coveralls and cow {stuff}!

Thanks for the peek!

Love the gallery look of your framed photos. I've been hoping to do the same sort of thing...but I'm going to try and use frames I already have and they are all different colors...do you think it will look as cute?

I love the pews!!! And the frames. Meghan I have some hung up that are all different. It still looks cute, but different. Depends on what your house is decorated like ;)

Glad your doing the November thing!

Meghan, using different colored frames will still look fine. BUT an even better look might be achieved by spray painting all your existing frames the same color. Black, White, or Cream are my favorite.

Lindsay, I haven't showed you our mud room yet. Lots of clutter to come. I promise.

The pew story is great...I hope you keep them in your family forever and everyone knows the story behind them.

Devil Woman made me laugh.. I can't remember the movie, but yes - I've heard it before. :-)

I think the sentimental value in those pews is what makes them the most special and so beautiful... I'll bet that even the kids will treasure them in their homes one day. ;-)

The first thing I noticed in the picture were the pews. I was flooded with memories of being seven years old and attending mass every tuesday with my class. Back then we still had to wear little viels on our heads. WOW!

I love them and those memories. Thank you:)

You know how I feel about your pictures!

I'm in on the everyday of November, for the sole reason of going on our Christmas shopping trip as our reward and feeling a comradery for doing it together.

Hurrah for you doing nablopomo or whatever!

I have been sidelined by Shane and his unfortunate bout with swine flu. Right now my extra energy is going into obsessive hand washing and sanitizing.

I have just read "tid bits" of your blog and can't stop. I love your perspective on life and what's important! Kyle has always seen something special in Matt and of course, I can see why. I feel lucky to know you guys:)
